Conferences

Conferences will be held October 23-26.  A Sign Up Genius link will be emailed to you a couple of weeks before conferences where you can sign up for your time.  If you would like to meet at any other time during the year, feel free to schedule an appointment with me so we can discuss your needs and/or concerns.  You may call at 387-7080 or send an email to [email protected] .  You may also send me a message via Parent Square.

Math Facts

We will be using an online math facts program called Xtra math, a supplemental program to help our students learn their math facts. Fact fluency is an integral part of students being successful in more complex math skills like long division and multiplication. Xtra math can be found in students' Clever portal. You can also print your own math facts at home or print copies of the math facts leveled practice pages from the links at the bottom of this page.

By the end of quarter 1: students should pass all adding and subtracting facts in Xtra math.

By the end of quarter 2: students should pass all multiplication facts in Xtra math.

By the end of quarter 3: students should pass all division facts in Xtra math.

In quarter 4, students should be proficient in all facts.

Library Books

Your child will be checking out books from the library each week on Fridays from 2:00-2:30.  Please make sure they take care of the books and return them on time.   If a book is lost or damaged, your child will be responsible to pay the replacement cost.  Your child should check out at least one book at his/her AR level to read with the intention to complete an AR test for homework.

P.E.

P.E. will be held Tuesdays and Fridays from  1:00-1:50.

Make sure that your child wears comfortable clothes and shoes that he/she can run and jump in.  If your child needs to sit out during P.E. they must have a note from home.

Attendance

As you can see, we are learning a lot daily and the curriculum moves quickly.  Please make every effort to have your child at school each day, well rested, and ready to learn.  Each Friday, we assess our learning, meaning each child has many tests to take.  If your child is ill, please keep them at home to recuperate.  I can send work home for your child if you let me know. Our curriculum moves quickly, so getting absent work to work on at home is very helpful to your child.  Please make every effort to schedule appointments for before or after school for your child.  If your child must miss school for an appointment, please be sure to send your child before or after the appointment so your child does not miss the entire day of school.

Independent studies are available for absences that are 3 days or longer. Please contact the office prior to a planned absence to arrange an independent study so your child will be able to keep up with their work.

Lunch

Lunch is available at no charge. Please be sure to fill out an income verification form regardless because this form impacts school funding. It is on page 33 of the Parent Handbook or available online.

Birthdays

On your child’s birthday, he/she will receive a small  gift from me.  Our class will also sing “Happy Birthday” to your child.  Our school has a policy to promote the health of each child and minimize class interruptions.  This means that no birthday treats, edible or not, are allowed for birthdays.

Snacks

Snacks can be eaten during our 10:15 recess.  Please send only nutritious snacks for your child. Please avoid sending sugary snacks or chips. Lunch is not until 12:00 so your student might appreciate a snack.

Parking

Please follow the parking lot rules!  Student drop off is in the back parking lot.  Follow the line and drop off quickly.  Parents are not allowed to get out in the drop off line.  These procedures are the same in the afternoon for parent pick up.  If you want to walk your child to class or have school business to do, please park in the back lot and walk onto campus.  There is no front parking available.  It is for Daycare and staff only.  Please do not drop off in the Daycare parking

lot.

Bikes/Scooters

Bike & Scooter Policy - Students must be in 4th - 6th grade to ride their scooter/bike to and from school. They must wear a helmet.

If students do not wear a helmet, they will be issued a ticket.  After 3 tickets, a student will lose the opportunity to ride their bike/scooter to school.

Cell Phones

Cell Phones - Students may have a cell phone in their backpack only.  It must be turned off and should not be taken out during school hours.  This applies to smart watches/cell phone watches.

Other Opportunities

Music- Music is optional.  Students are responsible for making up the work they missed while out of class later that night for homework.

Choir -  Mrs. Thomas will be teaching choir.  It will be held once a week on Wednesdays from 10:25-11:05.

Band- Mrs. Trevino will be our band director. Band will be held as sectionals on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Other opportunities- Fifth grade students will also have the opportunity to run for ASB, participate in Science Fair, Oral Language Festival, or Battle of the Books (BOB).

Parent Volunteers

I will need parent volunteers for special events here at school.  If you would like to help out with special events, please let me know.
You can also join PTC for $5.  There are many other ways to help out at school.  We need a room parent, as well as volunteers for our many school events.  Make sure to look for the fliers from PTC to sign up to help out.
