Math Facts

We use a program called Rocket Math for our math facts.  Each child will be given a goal of problems to complete based on their individual skill level from the assessment.  Once a goal is determined, they will be given 1 MINUTE to complete those problems to show mastery.  Each test has mixed problems.  If they meet their goal AND all problems are correct, they move on to the next level.   You will be notified of your child's progress during each quarter and on your child's report card.

Abcaya.com is a website where students can play many math games to practice math facts.  Flash cards are also a helpful tool.  Your child needs to practice addition facts with sums to 20.  They also need to practice subtraction facts from 1-20.  If you would like to make your own flashcards, please click the link.  If you would like to print your own Rocket Math pages to test your child, please use the links in the "Helpful Links" section of my webpage.  Rocket Math has also developed a for purchase app that is great for helping your child learn his/her math facts.  It is called Rocket Math and can be purchased and downloaded from the app store.

Lastly, many students find the Quarter 1 and quarter 3 goals easy because these are the same levels they practiced in 1st grade.  The goal in second is that they can complete more problems at a quicker pace than last year.  Students should also work diligently on the quarter 2 and quarter 4 goals as these are new facts for them this year.  Many students struggle to meet their goals during quarter 2 and quarter 4.

2nd Grade Quarterly Goals:

Quarter 2: Levels N-Z addition

Quarter 3: Levels A-M subtraction
